My Story

Sage and Spirit Designs

Hi! I'm Kris Hornsby, the one woman show behind Sage and Spirit Designs. I'm a family nurse practitioner and metalsmith living in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina. My first jewelry class was as an undergrad at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. Life then took me to northern California where I lived communally, worked at a co-op, and followed the music. I ended up in Western NC in the early 90's where for the past 25 years I've focused on school, family, and work. In 2018 I rediscovered my creative side and a passion for jewelry design and metalsmithing. A year later Sage and Spirit Designs was born. Life is about balance and this is the creative outlet that balances the scientific/medical side of my life, I'm a Gemini after all!

I believe that jewelry should not only be beautiful but also be meaningful. I love the creative process of looking at a gemstone and brainstorming ideas (sometimes I have to just give in to what the stone wants to be). Jewelry design is the yin to my medical yang. As in life I love learning, exploring nature, and adventure, this is translated into the variety of my designs.  I hope my jewelry inspires you and brings you joy.
